    Kazuhiko Yamazaki is a professor, user experience design lab., at Chiba Institute of Technology in Japan from 2007.

    Prior to that, he was design manager of user experience design center in IBM Japan, IBM Distinguished Engineer and a member of IBM Academy of Technology. He has been leading work on industrial design and human interface design in hardware and software products.  His achievements are to establish ThinkPad brand image as best brand image in worldwide mobile computing. Before entering IBM he worked as designer and planner for Furniture Company named Clean-up Corp. in Japan.

    He received a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial design from Kyoto Institute of Technology in 1983, and PhD degree in design from Kobe Design University in 2002. He is a part time teacher of special design course at Kyoto Technical University from 2002, Director of Japan Society for the Science of Design from 2004, Vice chairman of the board of directors in Human Centered Design –Net from 2005, a councilor of International Media Research Foundation, a member of guideline for e Government in Government IT center from 2008.

    He received 19 iF Product design awards in Germany, including 'Top 10' awards , 'Best of category' awards and 'Top 3' iF Interaction design award. He also received 5 IDEA Design Awards including a gold award from the NewsWeek Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA) in the US and 45 Good Design Awards including Best Design and Best of Category from MITI in Japan. His work was selected by The Museum of Modern Art and exhibited for their special exhibition of "WorkShpere" in NY, 2001. Now, he is a jury of Good Design Awards from 2008.

    He is the co-author of several books, such as “Designing for ease of use  – user centered design “, “IBM Design from Japan”, “Universal Design Practical Guideline” and “Creative Management on Design Section”.

    He made a keynote speech at the 5th Asian Design Conference-International Symposium on Design Science, Soul in 2001 , also he made presentation as an invited speaker at Industrial Design Intelligence Conference at MIT Media Lab. , Cambridge in 2004 and a keynote speech at Taiwan Design Center for  “It’s all about user” in 2005.  He currently has more than 50 issued patents around the world.

    A happy new year !



    A happy new year!

    Last year, I enjoyed with my students, friends and family very much.
    I am enjoying to teach design,  think design and create design at Chiba Institute of Technology.
    I am leading User Experience Design Laboratory with our student.  Now 5 master students and 17 graduate students in our laboratory. 
    And also, I am enjyoing to collaborate several companies and organaziation.

    Amsterdam day1

    I arrived at Amsterdam this Sunday. My hotel does not have capability to connect copmuter at the room and only common computer is method to connect.

    Sunday evening, I visited Chinese restrant around the hotel. This chinese restrant is serving Chinese and also Indonesia foods. Indonesia foods is very poplular in Duch but I am surprised Indonesia foods is serving at Chinese restarant.

    Purpose of this trip is to attend Mobile HCI conference but conference will start from Tuedsday so that I visisted several place in Amsterday Today (Monday).
    Dutch is a famous country by superior architechture and unique design.
